横浜トリエンナーレやフジロックなど日本でもこれまで大きな話題を呼んできたクレイグ・ウォルシュ。日常の中の非日常をテーマにした数々の奇抜なインスタレーションは、観客にいつも新鮮な驚きを与えてくれます。特に作品を提示する「場所」にこだわり、その背景との対話の中から生み出される作品を制作してきました。ベトナムのハノイで発表された作品では、何気ないオフィスビルのガラス窓が夜になると巨大な水槽となったり、美術館等での展示でもギャラリーの扉の向こうに映像の海が現れたり、といった「場所」の意味を一瞬のうちに鮮やかに変容させる手腕が世界的に高い評価を得ています。今回の作品タイトルは「CLASSIFICATION PENDING」。黄金町を流れる大岡川に不思議な生物を出演させ、地域の新たな伝説作りに挑みます。
黄金町バザールではこの他に地域に新たに出来る２つのアートスタジオをメイン会場とし、約30組のアーティストやショップなどが参加。日本でいま一番アートが元気な街・横浜の新たなムーブメントがここから始まります。
