Something New ～日本語教師アシスタント奮闘記～　その16

2月7日・木曜日
学校勤務開始4日目に、やっと自分のノートPCがダーウィンハイスクール内LANに接続できるようになった。
PCの設定も含めて学校のネットワーク管理者に頼んでおいたのだ。WindowsXPのOSが日本語なので多少設定に苦慮したそうだ。

これで気兼ねなくメールやインターネットができる。自分の入っているプロバイダーは、実はこっちの電話回線でもダイヤルアップ接続ができるのだが、海外のアクセスポイントなので市内通話料金の他に接続料として1分9円課金されるのだ。
たかが9円。されど9円。チリも積もればなんとやらである。その負担が軽減されるだけでも非常に助かるのだ。

それにしても木曜日はまったく空き時間がない。フルタイムで生徒たちに授業を教える。一番ハードな日だ。
だから、時間はあっという間に過ぎてしまった。息つく暇がない。 9時から21時ぐらいまで働くサラリーマンをつい半年前までやっていたから特に早く感じる。
このころになると、各学年のカラーが見えてきた。
小学校出たてのYear8(8年生)は立ち居振る舞いも容姿も非常に幼く感じる。愛くるしい。これが半年も経つと成長期の彼らはだんだん大人びてくる(特に男子)。
Year9(9年生)はバカ騒ぎが好きで元気いっぱいだが、ユミさんのカミナリが落ちると「ごめんなさい」とすぐにシュンとなり静かになるから面白い。
Year10(10年生)も騒がしいが尋常じゃない騒ぎ方でタチが悪い。教室の後ろのコート（いわゆる机がないぽっかり空いたエアポケットのようなスペース）で、丸めた紙をテープでぐるぐる巻きにしたボールを使ってキャッキャッとサッカーで遊んでいる。しかしユミさんも注意しなかったりする。なぜかYear9にゃこっぴどく注意するのだけどね。エコ贔屓よりあきらめモードということだろう。
Year11(11年生)。ここまで来るとよっぽど日本語に興味があって勉強したい生徒が履修し生徒数もしぼられてくる。だが、なぜか全く日本語なんて興味の「き」の字も持たない生徒が混じっているから不思議なのだ。
子供たちのキャラクターも見えてきて、いい意味でも悪い意味でも目立つ子たちの名前ぐらいは覚えられるようになってきたが、遊びほうけていたり、授業に集中しない生徒たちに今後振り回されることになる。

2月8日・金曜日
ダーウィンにやってきて一週間の最後の勤務日。土日は楽しいお休みだ。
今日は雨。オーストラリアに来て初めての雨だ。恵みの雨。
恐いぐらいにずっと晴れの続いていたので新鮮だ。両手を広げ、天を仰ぎたい気分だ。雨のダーウィンもオツだね。
そんな新鮮で刺激的な雨だが少々憂鬱なこともある。朝から2回目のモニカによる英語の授業を受けなければならないのだ。高校生と一緒に受ける授業は刺激的ではあるが違和感ありありだ。それに電子辞書もないわ、2時間ぶっ通しだわ．．．。
英文の主語と目的語を入れ替える問題が出されたが、さっぱりわからん。云っていることもわからん。やっぱり、勉強した英語を忘れている。まずいー。^_^;

しかし、教えるほうは12:50からの2コマだけだ。それが終われば放課後なのだ。土日がお休みというのは、そんな小中を送らなかったので羨ましい。そんな土日も休みなら勉強はしたくはないがその頃に帰りたいよ。
8年生のクラスで、最後の余った時間を有効活用してミニゲームをすることになった。
「あ行～さ行」の「ひらがな」の文字をバラバラにホワイトボードに3セット書いて、3人の生徒をセレクションして前に出させて定規を持たせる。アトランダムの「ひらがな」をボクが叫び、答えと思わしきホワイトボード上の「ひらがな」を指させるという単純なゲームだ。
しかしながら、生徒たちはムキになって我こそはと挙手をして皆やりたがり、真剣になってゲームに興じ負ければ悔しがる。妹の息子たち(甥っ子ら)だってトランプゲームを一緒にプレイしたとき命を取られたのごとき負ければ残念がり、勝てば天は我に味方したとばかりに狂喜乱舞するのだ。
それを見て子供は子供だねと思った。イノセントというか純粋無垢というか無邪気だよね。

ダーウィン

金曜日の放課後はメインスタッフルームが開放され職員のための懇親の場となる。学校の様々な教科のスタッフが勝手に集まって話をする場ということだ。毎週、金曜が恒例だそうな。
ユミさんに誘われ、そこに参加することになった。
まあ、メインスタッフルームの角に冷蔵庫があって、申告制でお金を缶に入れて、好きな飲み物(主体はビール)取って飲む。
まあセルフのパブってところか。結局、自分にはビールが付いて回る．．．。
メインスタッフルームの大きな窓をみるともうすっかり雨はあがっていた。雲の切れ間から蒼い空ものぞいている。
もうすでに6,7人集まって軽くおっぱじめているようで、談笑の花が咲いていた。
さすがにリカーショップのようにはいかず冷蔵庫の中のビールの種類は少なくボクはスタンダードなボトルのVB(ビクトリア・ビター)を取った。もちろんお金を払って．．．。
ボクは適当な席に座って(まあユミさんに金魚のフンのごとくついていって横の席に座っただけなのだが．．．)、軽く手でひねってVBの王冠を外した。
こっちの小型ボトルの王冠は栓抜きを使わなくてもすぐ開けられるから呑んべえには堪らない。ああ堪らない。
VBのボトルを傾け一気にあおった。
「プハ～」
この一杯が一週間の疲れを癒す。このために仕事しているのね．．．。
またユミさんに軽くボクを紹介してもらい、談笑の輪に加わることができた。
片言ながら、会話は成立しているようだ。飲ミニケーションやね。
やっぱり、例のごとく参加メンバーの名前が覚えられない。ちゃんと訊いたんだけどねー^_^;

不思議に思ったそこのア・ナ・タ。
スタッフのほとんどが車通勤だ。本当なら飲酒運転になるところなのだが、州にもよるが法律でビール1,2本なら飲んでもよいとのこと。これはアルコールの血中濃度？％の制限であるようだけど．．．。（現在のオーストラリアの法律はわからないがそういうことー．．．）
飲みすぎ注意です！

これでダーウィン・ハイスクールの長ーいようで短い一週間が終わった。

夜は、少し寂しいアイリーンとの夕食(会話が少ない．．．)が回避することができた。
実はビーチバレーボールのメンバーのトモコちゃんとその彼ミックがアイリーンのフラットに食事を作りに来てくれるのだ。
考えてみると彼らは１？才も年の差が離れているんだよなあ。羨ましい．．．。
そんな感じで彼女ができたらいいけど、オージーのオネエチャン方は気が強いらしいし．．．だからオージーの男どもがジャパニーズガールに走るわけで．．．。単なるボヤキだね．．．。
彼らの中睦まじく料理を作っている光景を目の当たりにするとボヤキたくもなるよ。

こういう時、ディナーを食べるのはやはりベランダ。
鬱蒼とした木々が風に揺れワサワサと鳴いている。はす向かいのゴルフコースはとっくに営業を終了していて、暗闇に包まれて静かそのものだ。
数ブロック先のスチュアートハイウエィから微かに車の走る音やブレーキ音が聴こえてくる。
白ワイン入れたグラスを傾けながら、パスタに舌鼓を打つ。なんと優雅なひと時だろう。一週間の目まぐるしい出来事が走馬灯のようによみがえってくるが、なんだか夢のような気もするわけで、ワインのアルコールの高さのせいなのか、ユメかウツツかマボロシか、区別がつかなくなってくる。

いや自分に起こったできごとは、事実なのだ。
12月までダーウィンに居る予定だけど、あっという間の一週間だけに、あっという間の一年になるんだろうなあ。

土日はどんな休日が待っていることやら．．．。

明日はとあるところで開かれるパーティーに参加だ！
